DEMCO Update, Winter Storm Uri 12:25 PM

Greenwell Springs, LA – Winter Storm Uri blew across DEMCO service areas delivering freezing temperatures and rain that quickly turned to ice on poles, trees and power lines. Due to the weight from icy build up, our system suffered broken poles in 36 locations and downed wire in 127 locations. Damage is extensive and weather conditions continue to strain poles and wires. These conditions are predicted to continue and have the potential to cause additional outages.

Central and Greensburg areas and the zip codes listed here have sustained the worst damage in our service area: 70706, 70726, 70785, 70441, 70739, 70722, 70453, 70817, 70744, 70422, 70444, 70814, 70791, 70770, 70818. While we have already restored power to over 25,000+ meters, the remaining 14,000 meters will be part of a days-long restoration plan. We will do everything we can to safely restore power to every meter as quickly as possible.

Members are encouraged to conserve energy to reduce the overall load on the system.

“Thousands of members have had power restored and will pull a lot of energy to warm up their homes,” says David Latona, Vice President of Marketing and Member Services. “Many more will continue to power up throughout the days ahead, so members are asked to conserve as best they can to prevent system overload.”
