DEMCO Invites Applicants Youth Cooperative Ambassador Program, Class of 2024

Greenwell Springs, Louisiana – DEMCO invites 9th and 10th grade students to apply for the class of 2024 Youth Cooperative Ambassador Program (YCAP). Ambassadors will network with students from all seven parishes served by DEMCO: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana.

Designed to educate and promote understanding of the cooperative business model, guiding principles, and practices, YCAP is an all-expense-paid leadership and educational opportunity organized and sponsored by DEMCO, a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative.

“This program is a great example of what makes a co-op different,” says Randy Pierce, CEO and general manager. “We are owned by our co-op members, and we make it a priority to invest in programs and people to show concern for the communities we serve.”

YCAP aims to foster positive ideas and values among youth, to learn about cooperatives, our governance, and business principles.

“Students learn about DEMCO and what it means to be a co-op, but we also inspire them to discover personal strengths, build and improve leadership skills, connect with peers and professionals, and explore career paths,” says Chanon Martin, community relations specialist.

YCAP is a five-month program that will begin January 9, 2024. Program participation requires ambassadors to participate in four program days scheduled on, January 9th, February 6th, March 5th, and April 2nd; 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at DEMCO Headquarters, 16262 Wax Road, Greenwell Springs, LA 70739.

Ambassadors will participate in an off-site community service project. An end of the year banquet is scheduled for May 7, 2024.

For more information or to apply by November 17, visit DEMCO.org/YCAP.  All applicants will be notified of the status of their application by Friday, December 8, 2023.
