Greenwell Springs, LA – DEMCO is actively monitoring and preparing for hurricane Zeta, expected to impact the seven-parish distribution network service area southeastern Louisiana with winds 20-30 mph, as reported by the National Weather Service New Orleans.

Zeta’s impacts are expected as early as Wednesday afternoon or early evening, only three weeks following Hurricane Delta.

“We encourage members to prepare now for Zeta, expected to bring excessive rainfall and winds,” says Randy Pierce, CEO and General Manager. “As with any severe weather system, outages can be expected.”

DEMCO reminds everyone that strong to damaging winds and rain can impact the system before, during and after the storm passes. Electric lines are often torn down by limbs and trees, and dangling lines and lines on the ground are often hidden by debris and water and can be deadly.

Crews are ready to respond when it is safe to do so. “Flood waters must recede, and wind speed must be less than 35 mph, to deploy crews and machinery necessary to assess damage, and then to repair damage to restore power,” says Mark Phillips, DEMCO Director of Operations.

“Please plan for this storm as you would the first storm of the season,” says David Latona, Vice President of Marketing and Member Services. “It’s been said again and again, but it’s always best to plan for the worst and hope for the best.”
