Greenwell Springs, Louisiana – DEMCO reports 91 percent system restoration, with remaining outages of 9645. A workforce of 900 crewmen continue work to rebuild and restore DEMCO system infrastructure following Hurricane Ida.
“We are now into day fourteen since Hurricane Ida, one of the worst storms to impact our system in the history of DEMCO,” said Randy Pierce, CEO and general manager. “Several pieces and spans of transmission infrastructure that are being repaired were DEMCO work plan projects that took six to nine months to complete when they were originally constructed.”
This morning at 6:00 a.m., in coordination with DOTD and authorities, a brief interstate closure provided access for crews to repair a regulator platform line crossing I-12. Due to conditions, damage and proximity to I-12, this job required over a dozen men and 6 pieces of specialized equipment, however the crews were able to safely complete the span in thirty minutes.
“To the north side of I-12 and on each side of the interstate are broken 55 ft. poles,” stated Mark Phillips, director of operations. “Nearly every structure required repair or replacement for the remainder of the 4-mile trek to Pumpkin Center.”
Tomorrow morning from 9 a.m. to noon, a planned outage is scheduled on Hwy 10 east of Greensburg to allow for Entergy to safely rebuild their main distribution line that crosses our three phase at the intersection of Hwy 10 and 441 North, St. Helena parish.

Crews are working their way south toward Pumpkin Center, completing 80% of the right-of-way reclamation. A 22-man line crew with off road equipment is working to repair the main circuit.
Timeline estimation is difficult due to the challenging terrain and the issues that come along with it This track equipment must traverse the right of way, but due to high water and boggy soil conditions, delays can amount to hours or days per instance, depending on the circumstances. The restoration from Hillsdale to Amite is estimated to be 50 percent complete by 9/21 and 100 percent complete by 10/4.
