DEMCO CEO Randy Pierce Announces Planned Retirement in 2026; National Search Underway

Randy Pierce, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of DEMCO, has announced his plan to retire in 2026, marking the culmination of a distinguished tenure leading one of Louisiana’s largest electric distribution cooperatives.

Pierce will continue to serve as CEO and General Manager until his successor is selected and a transition plan is completed.

To support a smooth and strategic leadership transition, the DEMCO Board of Directors has engaged the NRECA Executive Search team to conduct a nationwide search for the cooperative’s next Chief Executive Officer. The search process is currently underway and is expected to take approximately four to six months.

“The Board is committed to identifying a highly qualified leader who will build on DEMCO’s strong foundation and guide the cooperative into the future,” said the DEMCO Board of Directors in a joint statement.

The Board is seeking a results-focused utility industry leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, forward-thinking executive with deep expertise in electric distribution utilities, as well as demonstrated financial and operational acumen. Reporting to a 13-member Board of Directors, the CEO will be responsible for executing the strategic vision of the cooperative.

DEMCO is an electric distribution cooperative serving more than 120,000 meters across seven southeast Louisiana parishes: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and West Feliciana. The cooperative operates a modern electric system that includes 9,460 miles of line, 35 substations, three switching stations, two mobile substations, and ten metering points.

With a total utility plant of $863 million and operating revenue of $312 million, DEMCO is supported by a workforce of approximately 270 employees across a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, operations, finance, communications, member services, IT, and more.

DEMCO continues to experience steady residential growth of approximately 2–3% annually, reflecting the strength and expansion of the communities it serves. The cooperative operates in a dynamic regulatory and environmental environment, including oversight by the Louisiana Public Service Commission, and challenges such as severe weather events and evolving infrastructure demands.

DEMCO’s wholesale power supplier is NextEra Energy Resources, supporting a reliable and forward-looking power supply strategy.
