Greenwell Springs, LA — DEMCO crews are working tirelessly to restore power as melting ice and freezing temperatures continue to place significant stress on the electric grid. Members are urged to reduce electricity usage immediately to help prevent further outages and support restoration efforts.
Ice accumulation is causing tree limbs to break and power lines to snap, while the increased demand for heating is straining the system. In addition, cold temperatures are impacting electrical equipment, making components like transformers and switches more prone to failure.
DEMCO asks all residential and business members to take the following steps to help ease strain on the grid:
- Lower thermostats a few degrees to reduce demand.
- Unplug non-essential electronics and turn off unnecessary lights.
- Delay the use of large appliances such as washers and dryers until demand stabilizes.
By taking these simple actions, members can help stabilize the grid and assist DEMCO crews in restoring power more efficiently.
"Your cooperation is critical in helping us manage demand and restore power safely and quickly," says Anne Hawes, DEMCO Manager, Member and Public Relations. "Together, we can minimize disruptions and keep our communities safe and powered."
