DEMCO Foundation Scholarships

Applications open from April 18 to June 20 for the Fall Semester.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the DEMCO Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide assistance to DEMCO members who plan to attend an accredited university, trade school, vocational or technical school, community college, or educational program in the state of Louisiana.

TERMS
The deadline for DEMCO Foundation scholarship applications is the third Thursday in June for the Fall Semester and the third Thursday in December for the Spring Semester. The DEMCO Foundation will award several scholarships for $1,250.00.  The number of scholarships awarded will be determined after receiving all scholarship applications.  Funds are to be used to pay educational expenses such as tuition, books, and fees.  Scholarship payments will be made directly to the applicant’s school of attendance.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must be a DEMCO member, as defined by DEMCO Foundation Bylaws (see definition below).
  • Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • The applicant must plan to attend a trade school, vocational or technical school, community college, or other Louisiana institution.
  • Applicant must submit a completed DEMCO Foundation Scholarship Application online and all supporting documentation to the DEMCO Foundation office.  The application package should include the following:
    • Official Transcript. If you request the transcript via email, it must be emailed directly to me at Foundation@DEMCO.org; it cannot be forwarded.  If you request a hard copy of the transcript, it must be submitted in a sealed (unopened) envelope with the school’s seal/stamp on the closure to P.O. Box 15659, Baton Rouge, La. 70895, Attn. DEMCO Foundation: Please note that the official transcript must include the final grades for the current semester. For high school students: The official transcript must include your final grades with proof of the graduation date. 
    • a 2.5 cumulative GPA on an overall 4.0 scale;
    • Three letters of recommendation, none of which can be from a family member, DEMCO board member, or DEMCO Foundation board member. The author of the recommendation letter may email the letter directly to Foundation@DEMCO.org in a Word document, PDF or it can be mailed in a sealed envelope (P.O. Box 15659, Baton Rouge, La. 70895,  Attn. DEMCO Foundation) and must include a signature (electronic signature is acceptable).  If you have previously applied, new letters of recommendation are required;
    • an acceptance letter from the school of choice for a first-time or transferring student
    • A copy of your paid fee bill from the school you’re currently attending.
    • and a cover letter detailing the reasons for consideration for the DEMCO Foundation Scholarship. Please include any extracurricular activities or jobs you have held or are currently holding.  Please include your classification (freshman, sophomore, etc) and major. The letter may be emailed directly to Foundation@DEMCO.org in a Word document, PDF or by mail (P.O. Box 15659, Baton Rouge, La. 70895,  Attn. DEMCO Foundation)and must include a signature (electronic signature is acceptable), if you have previously applied, a new letter is required.

SCHOLARSHIP LIMITATION
Recipients can apply for a maximum lifetime scholarship award of four (4) semesters per individual.

Definition of DEMCO Member:

“For these Amended and Restated Bylaws, DEMCO members are defined as those who are members of DEMCO and their immediate family members.  Members of the immediate family shall mean those natural persons regularly residing in the member’s home served by DEMCO.”

The information contained in this statement is for the purpose of applying for a scholarship from the DEMCO Foundation for the benefit of the undersigned (applicant). The applicant understands that the information provided will be used in deciding whether to grant scholarship and individually represents and warrants that the information provided is true and complete and that the DEMCO Foundation may consider this statement as continuing to be true and correct until a written notice of change is provided.  The DEMCO Foundation is authorized to make all inquiries deemed necessary to verify the accuracy of the statements made on this application.  The applicant grants to the DEMCO Foundation the right to check any and all references with respect to the information contained in the application and the applicant waives any right to restrict the DEMCO Foundation’s access to such information.  Applicant understands that if such information is made unavailable to the DEMCO Foundation, the DEMCO Foundation may reject the application.  Applicant agrees that information provided to and received by the DEMCO Foundation may be shared with a selection committee.  All information will be kept in the strictest confidence and will be used for the purposes intended. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on available funds.

The applicant also agrees that the DEMCO Foundation may use this application, if approved, for publicity and promotional purposes, but that the applicant’s name and address will not be used for this purpose unless approved by the applicant prior to the promotion.
